On Friday, March 16, the European Union (EU) released two lists of US imports on which it would impose tariffs in retaliation for the United States’ imposition of tariffs on EU exports of steel and aluminum products. The first list would be implemented within 90 days and the second list would apply if the steel and aluminum tariffs are not eliminated within three years.
The lists include the products covered in the Section 232 product list, agriculture products, whiskey, tobacco, textiles, footwear and boats. The initial list also includes the following wire products, NOT included in the Section 232 tariff list:
- Stainless and carbon wire cloth
- Grill, netting and fencing
- Chain and roller chain
- Stainless and carbon screws and nuts
