Trade Enforcement Legislation

In late September, the House Committee on the Judiciary advanced H.R. 9151, the Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes Act, with unanimous support. The bipartisan bill –one of AWPA’s legislative priorities – was introduced in July by Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and the bipartisan leaders of the China Select Committee. The bill directs the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to establish a new taskforce dedicated to prosecuting international trade crimes, including customs fraud, duty evasion, and transshipment. In the House, committee approval puts the bill one step closer to a potential floor vote or inclusion in a year-end legislative package.
