President Donald Trump signed 3 Executive Orders over the weekend, implementing new tariffs on imported goods from Canada, Mexico and China. These tariffs are cumulative, on top of existing duties. Trump is ordering these tariffs under the authority of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) as a national security action, citing concerns over illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and dependence on foreign supply chains. . You can read these executive orders here:
The orders also suspend the Section 321 de minimus entry process, for shipments valued under $800.
As of publishing time, Mexican Tariffs have been paused for one month while negotiations over border issues continue. Canadian tariffs are set to begin tomorrow, February 4th, but some speculate the administration may also pause tariffs on Canadian imports, pending negotiations this afternoon.
Canada has announced 25% tariffs on a broad range of US products, but wire and wire products are not currently included in that list. Mexico has indicated that they will reciprocate, but have not made any specific announcement. China has also indicated it will respond, but without specifics.
